Our Story

Compass Rose Journal

SohoSpark combines three great loves to make things that are beautiful, practical, and personal.

We are creative creatures and beauty calls to us from everywhere. In a sunset, or child's eyes, or the gentle sway of the trees. We have been given a great gift -- to both perceive and create beauty in the world. When we make something beautiful, we give back a piece of that gift. There is joy in the making and, we hope, joy in the use of a beautiful product.

Our products get out of the way and let you write. No tedious ties to unwind. No trinkets to fall in your coffee. Open and write. Every aspect of the product is considered:

  • How large should the product be?
  • What should it be made of?
  • Should the pages be numbered or not?
  • What kind of binding does it need?
  • Should the notebook be permanent or refillable?
  • Should the lines be bold or soft?
  • How should it be packaged?
  • What would make this a perfect gift?

Writers write. We think you'll enjoy the process more by using a thoughtfully designed journal.

A word from the owner...

Personal writing journals have been a part of my story for decades. One recorded my personal walk with God while in school. Another captured the characters and plot for a screenplay. And still another recorded the formation of this company and my dreams for how our brand would touch the lives of others.

The covers we choose are designed to appeal to specific individuals. From the ever growing tree to the serene mountains to the stately dragon, every design is selected with you, the writer, in mind. The first product was for a sailor, and you can read about the birth of that product here.

Writing is personal. The thoughts and dreams that flow from your pen belong to you. You may choose to share them or keep them to yourself. Regardless, they are an expression of a unique soul -- a persona unlike any other. We want our products to help you enjoy writing so that you will cherish the process and keep doing it.

When you write down your thoughts, you transform imagination into reality. Thoughts become actions which become things. Maybe you can't change the world, but you can change your world.

Keep writing!
